Election Results

Sorry I didn’t post this up last night but my iphone died about 5 minutes after they announced the results. I did take pictures of the results and recorded the announcement. Click on the link below to listen, scroll to the bottom to see the official papers that were taped to the window, it shows the absentee/rez vote split.

The election day had a lot of good food. This much I am sure everyone can agree on.

I heard variations of the price tag for the election some said $400,000.00 some said $1,000,000.00. For those of you that participated in the on site election I am sure you noticed several things about that process that were making a lot of people nervous. The fact that the counting machine was not being fed right in front of us and being done in another room was not comforting. Almost every time I have voted in my lifetime this was done in front of you to assure the voter that their vote was counted. However, all of the other steps involved in the process would require a coordinated effort to produce fraudulent results that might work through the first run but would have a difficult time standing up against a forensic look at the voter data. The timeliness of the results being delivered not only calls into question the validity of the election but also the quality of performance by the company administrating the election.

We had a lot of surprises. And as everyone can see the poll results did not match the election results (Some were close, Some were wayyyyyyyy off). Hopefully future candidates will focus more on generating election day results instead of poll results.

We have  a runoff election(s) to pay attention to now. Brace yourselves everyone, we have more several more weeks of the circus!

Osage News

John Red Eagle and Tim Tall Chief received the most votes in the Osage Nation general election but neither received 50 percent plus one of the vote.

Scott BigHorse and Amanda Proctor received the most votes in the Assistant Principal Chief race but neither received 50 percent plus one of the vote. Both chief and assistant chief races will come down to a run off election July 19.

All three Osage Supreme Court justices were retained, which included Chief Justice Charles Lohah, Justice Jeanine Logan and Justice Meredith Drent. Tribal judge Marvin Stepson was also retained. The constitutional amendment on the ballot failed to receive 65 percent of the electorate.

The Osage News will post the Minerals Council election results when they receive them. The minerals council results were not announced by the time this story was published.

Osage Nation Election Board Supervisor Lisa Otipoby announced the results at 1 a.m. on June 8 and said that the results are unofficial until the provisional ballots are counted on June 9.

Otipoby will pick up the provisional ballots from the Pawhuska Post Office at 10 a.m. The provisional ballots, absentee ballots postmarked by June 7 but received after, will be counted and could affect the outcome of the congressional race. Once the provisional ballots are counted the election board can then certify the results.

Absentee ballots

All those that voted by absentee ballot in the June 7 election will automatically receive an absentee ballot for the July 19 run-off election. Woohoo! Round 2!

Help! Perhaps I’m not being fair and I have not given Asst. Chief the respect and attention that he deserves. If you voted for Asst. Chief please tell me why. I’m not interested in the fact he’s your friend, family member, neighbor, you went to high school with him, he tells great jokes, etc… Please give me concrete evidence that he is qualified for this position. We’re not looking for a student council president, we are looking for an individual who is capable of leading a Nation and managing a multi-million dollar industry. Please tell me what’s he’s accomplished as Asst. Chief (and his former professional history) that gives you this confidence. If Asst. Chief truly is the man to be called “Chief” I’d like for his followers to step up and tell me WHY!

I second that Osagemary….and in addition to this info request, I would like to know about any of these elected person’s background/knowledge in oil.

  4. Mary Oklah says:

In answer to Osagemary on who voted for Assistant Chief I would like to explain why I voted for Scott Bighorse. I respect Scott and I respect his father for the service and good work he has done for the tribe both as a councilman and former Assistant Chief. Both have integrity and honestly want the best for the Osage Nation. To imply otherwise is an egregious insult and misconception. They want the best for the Osage nation because they want the best for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who live both in Osage county and out. Whatever Scott has decided to do in his life, he has done it well. He chose law enforcement and worked his way to supervisory positions and created new programs for the benefit of troubled youth in Osage county. He works hard for the underprivileged, abused and neglected youth of Osage county. He was a member of the Oklahoma State Legislature representing Osage county and not just anyone can do that. Scott and his brothers chose to sacrifice part of their lives in order to learn and continue the traditions of the In-lon-shka by becoming singers at a time when not to many people were interested in learning these things from the elders. He is pro-active and will be a leader in promoting transparency and accountability in the tribe and has already demonstrated this when he uncovered a case of embezzlement in the tribe. He is recognized as a moderating voice and has the ability to bring parties together rather than cause derision. He will represent all the people whether they are related or not and will not neglect someone just because association with that person may make others uncomfortable. It does not take a law degree to be Assistant Chief and there are no benefits to having a law degree as Assistant Chief. There are benefits of having been part of the Osage community for all of ones life and knowing the people and issues of the Osage people and being respected as a traditional leader both in the tribe and outside the tribe.

  5. Osagemary says:

    Thank you Mary Oklah!

  6. David Jarvis says:

    Very well spoken, Mary Oklah.

Can anyone give similar good information about Mrs. Proctor? I do not know her right off, and am just looking to make a good vote next month. My parents live on the rez there, and having a well-run gov’t is important to them when they need help, as it is important to all of us.

I know and like both of the candidates for chief. But I think it is important not just to vote for who you like, but who you think will serve the people the best. That is why I’d like to make a similar choice for Asst Chief.

And I won’t say who I’m voting for – I think they are probably all fine people, and only the ballot box should know the choices…

    Thanks in advance!

    Dave Jarvis, Osage
