Well here it is. Already upon us. I hope to see all of you up on the hill today for the mayhem, I mean circus, ahem…sorry..I mean the election.
Today marks a turning point in the history of our people. Four years ago we democratically elected an Osage government that many of us thought we might not see again in our lifetime and despite all the growing pains, that government is still in tact (although many would classify it as one big happy dysfunctional family). There is a great deal to be said about that. To be honest, during the last election the only thing I could think of in my mind was who would emerge to try to take this down. Thank goodness we are still here. Even if we hate each other.
Although I did see a large amount of candidates that usually don’t show their faces at Grayhorse, at least I did not have to look at any campaign materials unless I was coming or going from the grounds. For that, I commend the candidates for exercising restraint.
Today, if you get a chance, say a prayer for these future and current leaders. Wish for them guidance and clarity during this time and in the future. They are going to need it. Today is the day each of you can exercise your Osage civic duty and cast a ballot. Let us pray the election is fair, honest and equitable for all candidates (yes, even the ones out there that I won’t be voting for). Let us also pray that we can go back to being civil with one another. As I’m sure people are tired of folks being so stink. Pray for the shhhhhhtink to go away.
That being said, I leave you with my favorite Mitch Hedberg quote.
“An escalator can never break: it can only become stairs. You would never see an Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order sign, just ‘Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience.’”
In case you are out there and looking for results to be posted it’s 10pm and they have not been posted yet. I will post them as soon as I get my hands on them.
At 12:37 am in Pawhuska I got this information…”The poll watchers are saying the machines for the main election malfunctioned and damaged ballots. A hand count may be possible but some are too damaged to read. The Minerals Council ballots are being hand counted and the results should be available in an hour.” I will post anything new that I hear.
The Osage news has posted the results. The Minerals Council will be announced soon.
Runoff: Tall Chief and Red Eagle.
Runoff: Proctor and Bighorse.
Congress: Standing Bear, Supernaw, Red Corn, Boone, Goodfox, and Free.
All judges retained.
Amendment 1 defeated.
Sorry to jump the gun on you Ryan, but a new dad has to sleep sometime!
It’s alright Kelly, my phone died right after the election, but thanks for posting the results last night.
Between the election, diaper changes, round the clock feedings, and life, I hope you got some sleep last night.
Don’t forget being married, and repairing the 100 year old Indian Camp home we live in. But honestly I can’t complain, I have a wonderful wife, child and family.
Ditto minus the wife part. Whoever says dads don’t do their part have never watched you and I with our families.
