Unless you’ve been held captive by a hairyman for the past while, everyone is well aware of the seemingly desperate economic reality we find ourselves in, both individually and as a Nation. Yet every challenge is an opportunity: how can the Osage Nation create a diversity of economic opportunities for itself and its citizens, students and entrepreneurs at this time?
Proven leadership! Charisma! Brains! The whole package!
I think the Osage Nation should stop contracting non-tribally affiliated companies, both small and large, to do construction when there are plenty of Osages needing work. There are a handful of small Osage businesses that would be able to give more work to Osages looking for employment if the tribe would contract these Osage businesses to paint, construct and maintain their buildings and housing. I, myself, am 51% owner of a small disadvantaged paint company and have yet to receive work for my own tribe.
There are excellent opportunites for investments. Not only in Osage owned companies, but realty, foreclosures, and lets not forget that it is a “buy” market for stocks and bonds. Now would be an excellent time to start investing the casino money so all our chickens, eggs and whatever other barnyard cliche there is out there are not all in one basket. The gaming industry is a very competitve market and with other tribally owned casino’s popping up like dandelions and with more accomodations than we offer, it’s time to think ahead.
