My name is Vance Wyrick, a shareholder who would like to represent you in the Osage Nation Congress. For most of my life I lived in Skiatook, but for the past 10 years I have lived in Florida with my wife and two children. Living so far from the Hill, I have gained a certain perspective on the operation of our new government. There is no question that we have come back from the precipice of elimination to a new vitality. This vitality, however, is expending itself in arguments and meaningless chatter. I am running for Congress with a specific goal: to build on Federal land, on the Skiatook Lake (on land that was taken from my Osage family by the Federal government and is now not being used), an assisted living and retirement center. The center will be available to our elders and those who have suffered from our most prevalent medical condition of diabetes, and will house our veterans who protected all of us and now find it difficult to care for themselves. This retirement center will allow our seniors to move into the specific type of care they need to fulfill their lives with dignity. I feel this facility can also house a state of the art nursing school and dietary facility in conjunction with one of the state universities for the education of our young people. This can be done on land that is available and can be leased from the federal government for $1 per year. I hope to use grant money to initiate the construction, as has been done with other projects on the Skiatook Lake. We Osages would operate the center, and our elders and young people alike would be able to reap the benefit of the funds now being used for less worthwhile projects. We are Osage. We are leaders. Let us use the assets of Osage lands, Osage brains, and Osage moneys for the benefit of all Osage people. Everybody should vote, whether by absentee or on the hill.
