Dear fellow Osage Citizens,
My name is Alice Marguerite Goodfox and I am running for Osage Nation Congress. I received my Osage name Xu-thah-toh-we (first daughter, Tzi-sho Clan of the Wah-Ti-Anka Band) from my great-grandfather Walter Matin (Original Osage Allottee #752.) My mother is Rosa-Raye Hill Pledger and I am the great-granddaughter of Rose Neal Hill (Original Osage Allottee #176) and Helen Pratt Matin (Original Osage Allottee #699.) I am a direct descendant of Josephine C. Pratt (Original Osage Allottee #698) and Henry Pratt (Original Osage Allottee #697.) Growing up my grandma, Marguerite Matin Waller always told me that I must learn to walk well in both the Osage world and non-Osage world, but most importantly I was to remember where I came from.
I earned an Associates degree from St. Gregory’s College in Shawnee, OK, a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies from the University of Maryland in College Park, MD, and a Masters in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma. Currently, I am employed as the HR Supervisor with the Osage Million Dollar Elm Casino. Prior to this, I lived in the Washington DC area and worked as a government contractor for over six years in multicultural marketing and communications for federal agencies such as the Department of Health & Human Services. As a certified and experienced focus group moderator I have worked with dozens of tribes across the country on issues involving alcohol and substance abuse prevention and treatment, mental health, and education doing both quantitative and qualitative research.
In June 2010 my IIM account will be established and like my husband and mom, I will be a shareholder. Protecting the minerals trust is extremely important to me. I am a confident leader with a strong voice but more importantly, I am a skilled listener. My educational and professional background has always focused on work that is for the good of the people. The bond we share, of being Osage is powerful and our government must be diligent in the efforts made to protect, preserve and promote the Osage Citizens that it serves. Every Osage should feel that they belong to something that helps shield them in some way from the challenging world of today. Health care, higher education, preserving our culture and language, housing, job training and security, retirement, childcare, efforts to sustain existing programs, making plans for future programs, these are all important topics for many Osage Citizens.
I believe in accountability and I am an honest person who will work hard to represent your needs. You will find that I am a true civil servant, that I practice two-way communication, and that I genuinely want to help make things better for all Osage people and that is why I am running for Osage Congress. I respectfully ask for your vote and support.
